The Charity
Acorn Community Care Ltd is a registered Charity (No: 1095207) which opened on 3rd July 2003. We are a not-for profit organisation and registered with Company’s House (No: 4528689).
The Charity provides a range of services for adults (18+) with a Learning and/or Physical Disability in the Ryedale and North Yorkshire areas.
The Charity’s support team comprises of a CEO, seven Trustees, two Managers, twelve full-time support workers and 5 volunteers. Acorn is included on the approved providers list for North Yorkshire County Council and is therefore able to contract with the local authority Social Services Departments. This provides the Charity with some core-funding. We do not receive full cost recovery for our services, so as a Charity, we are always finding ways to raise funds to bridge this ever widening gap. We try to achieve this by applying to Charitable Trusts and by being creative and putting on our own fund-raising events from Coffee Mornings and sponsorship walks, to Open Days profiling our home-grown meats with Hog Roast Food. In 2013, we started our ‘Friends of Acorn Community Care’ Group to encourage people to volunteer and promote the Charity, organise fund-raising events and raise the profile of the Charity using a new Web-site, Facebook and Twitter. This is an ever growing group, bringing together people with particular expertise to share with the charity, to work together towards a common goal.
